What We Do
EDUCATION - AHMS provides education on horsemanship and horse management relevant to the good care and keeping of any horse.
RESCUE GRANTS - AHMS supports equine welfare through horsemanship projects and providing grants to support projects for equine welfare, such as training and care of horses diverted from slaughter-bound auctions, off-track transition and rehabilitation, and other qualifying circumstances. The grants empower individuals in the horse community to use their energy and skills to make an impact, one horse and one issue at a time.
Who We Are
Current AHMS Volunteer
Board of Directors
AHMS President Alice Dietrich has a passion for horses, learning, and social justice. In the non-horse world, she is an attorney and works in county human services operations.
Alice is a Joint District Commissioner for Clayton Canyon Pony Club in the USPC Midcal region. Although a life-long horse-person, her education and early career created a pause in horse time, giving her a special interest in the needs of “re-riders”, the community of folks who were riders as kids and after a pause have returned to riding (or started riding) with life experience and zeal. She and her husband, Tom, a Systems Architect and Software Engineering Consultant, have cats and horses and enjoy participating in their family’s showing of Portuguese Water Dogs.
AHMS Board Member/ Secretary Mattie Terstegge is a former farrier, USPC Mid-Cal Regional HMO, and born horse-enthusiast. Her passion for adventure took her abroad, including working for a time at the Lovick’s ranch in Australia (of Man From Snowy River fame). She is also a talented photographer, classical dressage and eventing enthusiast, voracious reader, and deep-diver into all things Horse Management.
AHMS Board Member/ Treasurer Nora Borcea Pullen brings experience in corporate operations and as an educator to her role with AHMS. She has a particular passion for tutoring under-privileged youth, is a champion for all things fitness, nutrition, wellness and health, and is a true animal person and animal welfare advocate.
